SNOWFEST hosts North Lake Tahoe’s only firework show
Saturday, March 1, 2025
Once upon a time firework shows were ubiquitous in North Lake Tahoe. Of course there were 4th of July fireworks. There were also fireworks on New Years Eve and to celebrate the opening of the ski season. World cup ski races, concerts and weddings were a reason to celebrate with fireworks.
After the devastating Caldor fire in 2021 our community began to rethink the tradition. In addition to the risk of fire an emphasis to “keep Tahoe blue” factored into a transition away from traditional fireworks launched from a barge anchored in the lake.
But a winter festival is the perfect venue to host a firework show and SNOWFEST is proud to host the last remaining annual firework show in North Lake Tahoe. A team of volunteers helps set up, monitors during the event and cleans up afterwards. The North Tahoe Lakers High School Golf Team helps clean any remaining debris after the snow melts in the spring.
In conjunction with North Tahoe fire department, Placer County and the Tahoe City PUD, SNOWFEST fireworks are launched from the middle of the snow covered Tahoe City Golf Course. Launching fireworks in this central location means the show is visible throughout Tahoe City. This also makes parking easy since you can park anywhere in Tahoe City and wander back to the golf course to enjoy the show.
The best view is from the party at the Tahoe City Winter Sports Park (251 N. Lake Blvd. Tahoe City, CA 96145). An outdoor stage features music by Tahoe’s own NOMADS. Food and drinks served by Cafe Zeon. Music starts at 5:30pm and the fireworks begin at approximately 7pm.
This is a free, family friendly event and the only firework show on Lake Tahoe’s North Shore. Don’s miss it.
Donations to our community fireworks show are welcome.
